THE
CARCAS TOSS
Well the showdown went down
yesterday and I got the story for you. The day started off with us
leaving San Jose at 7AM and heading out to San Francisco to go witness
history in the making. The showdown did not start until 12:00 noon so we
headed out to the new spot for some skating and filming. When we pulled
up at about 8:30 I was amazed to see that a bunch of out of town skaters
had camped out all over the ledges and shit. It was obvious now that
this was no joke! This contest brought people from all over, and if you
looked around the city it seemed that every corner on every block had a
session going down. The new spot was fun for about an hour or so then
the masses showed up. It got crowded 11AM rolled around and it was time
to go to the showdown. We showed up at about 11:30 still a little early
but good thing because it was starting to fill fast. Next thing I know
it was time, Jake Phelps led the national anthem, with the Hendrix
version of course and then let everybody know that they better bring it
or go home no feet draggin, no grabs and no crybabies. It was official
the moment everyone was waiting for was about to go down. At first
everyone kind of just rolled up to it sizing it up but then Elissa
Streamer stepped it up with the first ollie attempt. This girl can take
a beating she kept sliding across the blacktop taking some big hits and
just got right back up and hit it again. Big props out to Elissa Steamer
for being the only girl to throw herself down the big four. After that
first attempt the bodies started flying one after the other.
Here's some
of the skaters and the tricks they were trying. Fabrio Santos (Frontside
Flip), Andrew Reynolds (Frontside Flip), Caswell Berry (360 Flip),
Darrell Stanton (Switch Backside 180), Chris Cole (360 Flip), Lindsey
Robertson (Heelflip - Back Heelflip), Van Wastell (Backside Flip),
Branden Fitzgerald (Backside Flip), and some other people that I did not
know and apparently either did Jake Phelps because he would always say "
Who in the fuck is this guy" and then Mic-E would always reply "Who
Fuckin cares as long as they want to throw them self down the four".
Pure Comedy with these two guys being the MC's for the event. Aaron Artis got the first injury, A bum ankle and had to limp away to the
paramedics for attention. Everybody was on edge it was a matter of time
before someone was going to land something. Andrew Reynolds was
definitely favored to bust out the Frontside Flip and within about 6 or
7 try's, He nailed it! And I mean nailed it! It was perfect the crowd
went fukin bezerk it was insane. That pretty much set the bar and now
something had to go down. Next up Darrell Stanton and his incredible
style this boy is seriously smooth. Mic-E announced that while in San
Francisco Darrell Stanton went to the Clippers Ledge and landed a NOLLIE
backside noseblunt. WHAT??? INSANE!! So Darrell takes about 4 to 5 try's
at the Switch Backside 180 and BOOYA! he laid it down only the he knows
how. That was two tricks and only about 20 Minutes left. They only had
an hour for the contest because of permits. Lindsey Robertson would be
the next to put down a trick and it would be one of the nicest Heelflips
you have ever seen. To bad I am a dipshit and totally missed that clip
but don't worry I got you covered on the other two. So three tricks one
hour that was the outcome. Jake Phelps called up the winners and handed
them straight cash money. Andrew Reynolds $2000.00 Darrell Stanton
$2000.00 not sure what Lindsey got but they did give Elissa Streamer
$500.00 just for being the first girl to try to ollie the big four. I
would have to say that I had a lot of fun and am glad that I got to
witness history in the making. Shots out to Thrasher Magazine, Zero
Skateboards and Skaterade for making this event go down. Let's see what
happens next year..........Tony |
