DECKARAMA RECEPTION HIGHLIGHTS
Well
Wednesday is usually our skate night, but this Wednesday Muff, Eric,
Daniel and myself headed out to the Deckarama Skateboard Art Show.
Legendary Skateboard Artists Jim & Jimbo Phillips were on hand to MC the
event. If you remember names like Rob Roskopp, Jeff Kendall, Clause
Grabke, Natas Kaupas, Salba, Duane Peters and Christian Hosoi then you
had to be at this event. It all started out with a little meet and
greet. Everyone was just roaming around looking at all the different
styles of
art
that was on hand. You know that Eric Sepulveda found the food table
right away check him out to the right looking very
mischievous. After
all that then came the presentation. Jim Phillips started out by telling
everyone his story from the beginning of his career. It was truly
inspirational to hear Jim's story and what he has done for the whole
Skateboard & Surf Scene. Not to mention what a kick ass dad he was by
sharing
his talent with his son and friends. He was saying how by doing art it
gave him freedom to go skate and surf with his son everyday, I thought
that was dope! Well Jim had a lot of art to show look below for Jim and
Jimbo snapshots from the slide show. Jimbo was next after his dad and he
showed us that he as well shares the talent of his father. Jimbo has
been drawing since a very young age I think it was six here's a shot
of
him at his first art desk courtesy of pops. Jim Phillips became so busy
at a time that he couldn't keep up with all the work NHS Inc. needed so
he had to hire on some help and who better to hire than his son and some
of his skater friends. Well to make a long story short this event was a
great flashback for me. I got a kick out of seeing all the logos
from the past products we used to ride like Slimeballs Wheels, Cell
Blocks, Speed Wheels, OJ'S and many more. Well I just wanted to say
thanks to everyone who put this
event together it was a very good presentation. Jim & Jimbo keep the
good work up I still love your art style for sure and I'm glad to see it
still being used regularly. To contact Jim or Jimbo Phillips visit the
Phillips Studio Web Site at
www.jimphillips.com
and make sure you buy his book you don't want to miss out! Last but not
least I will leave you with a photo of Jim, Jimbo and myself.
