STIFLE
(StarTime International Fader Label Enterprises) is a new label
started by StarTime International (home to the French Kicks and
Brendan Benson, two of the most popular indie-bands on the scene
today), and The FADER Magazine, a bi-monthly tome on everything
that matters within music, fashion and lifestyle. The purpose of
the label is to cross-pollinate, blur, and disintegrate the
boundaries between various genres and sub-genres. With plans to
work with A list artists and producers in 2004 already in
motion, STIFLE’s reach will extend beyond the record store and
dance floor and into the forefront of independent dance music.
STIFLE002 THE STREETS ‘WEAK BECOME HEROES’
This track brings the most dance floor ready track from Mike
Skinner of The Streets highly acclaimed debut ‘Original
Pirate Material’ even closer to the source with two innovative,
original, and essential remixes. The album version is also
included. 3 FANS FEAT. LISA SHAW_ Lisa Shaw is star of the Naked
Music roster, famed New York DJ Swingsett, and downtempo
all-star Takuya. The three make an upbeat, strong, and
fantastically orchestrated new track. Leaving only Skinner’s
words, they add new piano, percussion, bassline, drums and a
whole host of other sounds and rhythms. A dub is included for
the DJs as well. ROYKSOPP_ These Nordic funksters, Torbjorn
Brundtland and Svein Berge created last year’s ‘Melody AM,’ one
of the most popular dance records released in the world,
spawning three hit singles and universal acclaim. The theme and
cadence of The Streets poignant observation matches
perfectly with Royksopp’s ability to create warm, atmospheric,
yet ultimately hugely danceable tracks.
