STIFLE
(StarTime International Fader Label Enterprises) is a new label
started by StarTime International (home to the French Kicks and
Brendan Benson, two of the most popular indie-bands on the scene
today), and The FADER Magazine, a bi-monthly tome on everything
that matters within music, fashion and lifestyle. The purpose of
the label is to cross-pollinate, blur, and disintegrate the
boundaries between various genres and sub-genres. With plans to
work with A list artists and producers in 2004 already in
motion, STIFLE’s reach will extend beyond the record store and
dance floor and into the forefront of independent dance music.
STIFLE 004 THE ENDS ‘ARE YOU REALLY FROM THE ENDS’
This features the highly anticipated, stateside release of ‘Are
You Really From The Ends?”’by the UK’s The Ends. For all you
down-tempo heads, the flip side features a future soul/broken
beat remix by Andrew Edward Brown, better known for his work
with the NYC based production outfit, Champion Soul. This
remix, like all STIFLE releases is exclusive and only available
on this 12”. ANDREW EDWARD BROWN_ Born in Philly and now based
in NYC, Andrew Edward Brown is one half of the duo known as
Champion Soul. Andrew’s remix is a future soul/broken beat
mix that is sure to turn the head of any chin-stroking vinyl
junkie. With this mix, Andrew slows down the BPMs and adds an
ambient soundscape to give the listener a sonic journey into the
future (soul). An a cappella track is also included for the DJ
looking to pull out some tricks on the floor. JAMMER VS. BIGGA_
More minimal, harder, and more ominous sounding. Jammer and
Bigga give the street anthem quality of the original a sense of
menace with overtly synthed, deep, bass lines, and the removal
of almost any orchestration.
