STIFLE
(StarTime International Fader Label Enterprises) is a new label
started by StarTime International (home to the French Kicks and
Brendan Benson, two of the most popular indie-bands on the scene
today), and The FADER Magazine, a bi-monthly tome on everything
that matters within music, fashion and lifestyle. The purpose of
the label is to cross-pollinate, blur, and disintegrate the
boundaries between various genres and sub-genres. With plans to
work with A list artists and producers in 2004 already in
motion, STIFLE’s reach will extend beyond the record store and
dance floor and into the forefront of independent dance music.
STIFLE001 FRENCH KICKS ‘CLOSE TO MODERN’
The song originally boasted dirty guitars, a Rolling Stones like
back beat, and Prince like vocal harmonies. In the hands of DJ
Smash and Eucho it’s totally different and ready for the clubs.
EUCHO_ Underground house producer Eucho provides ‘Close to
Modern’ with a thumping electro-bassline a la New Order, a solid
house beat and enough funky keyboard flourishes to put most
producers to shame. The white label was shortly the talk of the
town at Winter Music Conference this year. The dub is super
funky disco similar to Metro Area. DJ SMASH_ Most famous for his
uber-successful Blue Note mix CD, DJ Smash has been a fixture on
the deep house circuit for close to ten years, garnering a world
wide fan base. Stripping down the song to its most minimal parts
this song would fit perfectly for a ‘Bang the Party’ kind of
vibe- relaxed and funky.
