Relient K emerged from the
mighty Canton, Ohio, where such things as the Hoover vaccum, the wonderful
Macy Gray, the girlfriend-consuming Marilyn Manson, parts of boybands such
as 'Nsync and 98 Degrees, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame were born.Their
style of music is considered "popular punk rock-n-roll for the modern
teenager". If you enjoy bands like MxPx, Blink 182, Weezer, Sum 41, Ace
Troubleshooter, etc, then Relient K will KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF! Relient K
has a love and passion for Jesus Christ with a goal to spread His love
through the form of music and fun to all young people (or maybe even your
grandma). Relient K has had a total of 4 drummers, with one only being
temporary. The first was Todd Frescone. He was the drummer in the days of
"All Work and No Play." Steve Cushman, the drummer for the self-titled
album, soon came along and stayed with the band for a while and appeared
on the self-titled album from Gotee (you know, the white one with the
hurdle on the cd). When Steve decided God was leading him in a different
direction (he now plays for the band Narcissus), Jared Byers temporarily
played with the band while they searched for a new drummer. When 2001
came, the band found Dave Douglas, the new drummer! Previously of Linus's
Blanket, he appeared on "The Anatomy of the Tongue and Cheek" and the new
album due out later this year.
The band got their big
break after being discovered by Mark Townsend and Toby McKeehan of dctalk
and Gotee Records. Their self-titled album sold over 30,000 albums and
became the #1 new Christian rock act of 2000. "The Anatomy of the Tongue
in Cheek" blew away the idea of "the sophomore slump" and sold around
9,000 copies within the first week.
