You guys probably haven’t
noticed but I haven’t updated my column in a while but I
have an excuse, I’ve been working long hours over here
at the CALISKATZ headquarters. For those of you that
have been sleeping on this skateboard game we just
opened our first skate shop in Fremont CA. on August 28,
2004. We had a few promotions going on to hype up this
event. SPEEDBALLS Precision Skate Bearings donated 50
SETS of bearings to hook up the first 50 skaters through
the door which was dope of them and KAOTIC SKATEBOARDS
hooked up a few decks and a ton of t-shirts a big thanks
to them also. The day started off for me at about 6:00
AM to my surprise there was already about 7 kids lined
up outside for the bearings and product toss that we
were hyping up the last couple weeks through TV
commercials, street promotion and some word of mouth. I
went inside the shop to see what was going on and
everybody was finishing up and putting the last touches
on things for opening day. It was about 7:30-8:00 AM
when I looked outside and there were well over 50 people
waiting to get in side which made every body pretty
stoked because we all thought what if no one comes it is
only 9AM and what type of teenager gets up at 9AM? Well
apparently there are a few out there. Every shop has a
grand opening but were not you typical skate shop so we
didn’t want a typical grand opening. We decided to have
our friends FAR FROM YOU come down and set up just a
couple amps and play a song as soon as we opened our
doors and we would just start throwing shit out the
door. That's pretty much how it went down. The doors
opened at 9:00AM the paper that blocked the windows came
down and the band cranked up the amps and it was on.
The kids went nuts, Boards, T-shirts, Stickers,
Sweatshirts and other unidentified objects were flying
into the parking lot like mad. We had a tug a war in the
bushes in front of the shop for a KAOTIC Deck which was
pretty funny. Its crazy how these people will seriously
dive head first into bushes for a free deck. The whole
live music and free product toss thing lasted about 5
minutes and put every body in a “can we have more free
stuff” vibe witch is cool but were a skate shop and we
need to sell stuff too so it was time for business. Our
friend Bruce from GIRL SKATEBOARDS came out to feed all
the cravings these kids had for more free stuff. We
threw out a bunch of stickers some Fillmore Wheels, a
Girl Deck and some Fourstar Clothing. The Grand Opening
was a seriously fun time. I just want to thank every
body that came out and lined up early you guys are crazy
6AM? Bruce From GIRL SKATEBOARDS for all the product.
The whole Pimentel family & friends they were a huge
help and Chris our security guard and anyone else I left
out. One more thanks goes out to all the company reps
that believed in us and got us product in our store by
opening day with out that we would have never made it by
the 28th. If you haven’t been to the shop yet you should
get on your game and come get some fresh new gear and if
you mention “MUFF'S WORDZ” ill hook you up with a half
sheet of grip and a used sticker or two if I think your
worthy.
